Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Lumen ("we," "us," "the app") collects when you use it, why we collect it, who can see it, and the choices you have. Lumen is intended for people 18 years of age or older.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what's needed to run a dating app safely. Specifically:
- Account information: email address and phone number (used to verify you're a real person and to let you recover your account), and a password (stored as a salted hash; we never store or can see your actual password).
- Profile information: date of birth (to confirm you're 18+; only your age, not your birth date, is ever shown to other users), gender identity, and anything you choose to add: photos, bio, pronouns, style tags, height, job title, school, and prompt answers.
- The feminine-presentation attestation: a required confirmation at signup that you identify as or present as feminine, since Lumen is exclusively for feminine-presenting people. Misrepresenting this is a violation of our Terms of Service.
- Location: your device's precise GPS location, used only to calculate your distance from other users. Other users only ever see your city and an approximate distance (e.g. "3 miles away"), never your precise coordinates or exact address.
- Verification selfie (optional): if you choose to get verified, a selfie is reviewed by a human moderator to confirm it matches your profile photos. It is used only for that review.
- Messages: the content of messages you send to your matches, so we can deliver them and so you and your match can see your conversation history.
- Reports and blocks: if you report or block another user, we record that action and the reason given, to enforce our Community Guidelines.
- Push notification token: a device identifier used only to deliver push notifications you've opted into (new matches, messages, and likes); you can turn each of these off individually in Settings.
- Basic technical data: crash reports and error logs, used only to fix bugs. These do not include your messages or photos.
2. What we don't do
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. There are no ad networks or analytics trackers embedded in the app.
- We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
- We never show your precise location to other users, only city-level distance.
- We do not share your data with other users beyond what you put on your own profile, your messages with your matches, and (for verification) the fact that you're verified.
3. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, and verify you meet the age and identity requirements to use Lumen.
- To show you (and be shown to) other users for the purpose of matching.
- To deliver messages between matched users in real time.
- To moderate content: both automated screening of uploaded photos and human review of reports, appeals, and verification requests, to keep the app safe.
- To send you notifications you've opted into.
- To respond to support requests and enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
4. Photo moderation
Every photo you upload is automatically screened by an on-device classification model before it becomes visible to anyone else, and may additionally be reviewed by a human moderator. If a photo is rejected automatically, you can appeal that decision for human review. Photos rejected by a human reviewer are final.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account, available at any time, no need to contact support), we permanently delete your profile, photos, messages, matches, and account data, including the actual photo files, not just the visible record of them, right away. Reports you've filed against other users may be retained in an anonymized form for safety and legal record-keeping purposes.
6. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction: you can view and edit most of your profile information directly in the app at any time.
- Deletion: you can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings.
- Notifications: you can turn off any category of push notification (matches, messages, likes) individually in Settings, or disable notifications entirely at the iOS system level.
- Discoverability: you can turn off appearing in other users' discovery feed at any time while keeping your account active.
7. Children's privacy
Lumen is strictly for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Age is verified at signup based on the date of birth you provide; misrepresenting your age is a violation of our Terms of Service and grounds for account termination.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between the app and our servers, salted password hashing, and access controls limiting who on our team can view user data. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorized access.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you in the app before the changes take effect. Continuing to use Lumen after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
